The CompUCut System

The CompUCut system consists of software and hardware. The software converts your chosen design into a format usable by the hardware. The hardware controls the stepper motors connected to your machine, turning the X,Y and Z axes to produce the job.

What does it do ?

At the simplest level it provides a gentle introduction to CNC technology, providing a 3-axis independently variable feed system with the following functions:

• A continuous variable feed in forward/reverse
• Multiple pass: increases the depth of cut amount on each pass
• Manual 'jog' input via the keyboard allows setting the cutter to datum or creeping up to final size
• Programmable 'jog-step' distance
• Real-time individual readout including on-line reset providing accurate relative moves
• Programmable readout units allow for any leadscrew/gearing combinations.
• Programmable for imperial or metric leadscrews of any pitch
• Calibration function to"dynamically correct" errors in the leadscrew pitch

The combination of CAD and the multipass facility makes those "difficult" jobs such as turbine blading, and aero wing rib machining an interesting project. Straightforward examples are the machining of sheets of scale chequer-plate and raised letter nameplates for model locomotives.
